The Delegation of Russian Companies Met with Nigerian Vice President as Part of a Business Mission Organized by AECAS

September 29, Moscow – The Head of the Secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, Ambassador-at-Large O. Ozerov arrived in the Nigerian capital Abuja for an official visit together with the business delegation of AECAS.

The delegation included the representatives of The State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, United Metallurgical Company, Uralchem Group, Uralkali and Power Machines company.

During the visit to Nigeria organized by the Association of Economic Cooperation with African States (AECAS) with the support of the Russian Foreign Ministry and with the assistance of the Russian Embassy in Nigeria, representatives of major Russian companies as well as the members of the Russian-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce were received by Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President of Nigeria.

The Vice President confirmed the interest in developing bilateral cooperation and the need to increase the presence of Russian companies in Nigeria.

"We are interested in developing relations with Nigeria; it is one of the largest and most promising economies where we see a lot of opportunities. We were happy to hear that the Vice President supports the development of bilateral economic relations. Russia has a lot to offer, from new technologies to fertilizers, to energy and infrastructure projects, to agriculture. We must intensify cooperation to achieve tangible results prior to the second Russia-Africa summit in 2022," Mr. Ozerov told journalists on the sidelines of the press conference following the meeting.

During the visit of Russian business delegation to Nigeria, the official opening ceremony of the Russian-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce took place. The event was attended by Olamilekan Adegbite, Minister of Mining and Steel Development of Nigeria, representatives of Nigeria's Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Agriculture and other officials, as well as the heads of major Nigerian companies in these sectors.

"The influential Russian companies coming to Nigeria have many offers for our country in the field of technological exchange, infrastructure, investments. We enjoy excellent bilateral relations, but today we must also increase our economic cooperation," Obiora Okonkwo, the president of the Russian-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told reporters.

As part of the visit to Nigeria, AECAS also organized a series of bilateral meetings for the representatives of Russian and Nigerian companies.
